Take a look at some frequently questions you may have when renting a car from Ace.

Welcome to the hustle and bustle of New Zealand’s busiest city, Auckland, is a thriving metropolitan hub that is the perfect base to explore the wild and rugged landscape surrounding it.

In the north of the North Island, Auckland is a beautiful spot to stay. With ample bits of nature, plenty of culture, and lots of history, you could easily dedicate your entire trip here to exploring the city limits. However, it’s also a great place to use as the first stop on a wider trip of New Zealand itself. With the Bay of Islands to the North and the entirety of the North and South Islands below it, Auckland could be the start of a trip of a lifetime.

Having a car is the best way to get around the city. Many suburbs collectively make up the entire city, which you’ll want to explore to truly understand the city's vibe. So head to Ace Auckland City when you first arrive, and we’ll get you sorted with a rental car as fast as possible. Then, the city and country are yours to explore.

Check out the City with Ace

Auckland is a cool city that needs a few days to explore.

Perhaps start the trip with a visit to Mount Eden. You actually have around 50 volcanoes to choose from in Auckland, but Mount Eden, or Maungawhau, is the most famous. This dormant volcano is the highest natural point in the city at 196 metres tall. Drive over to the volcano's base and climb up it to witness some of the city's best views.

Another great viewpoint is from the Sky Tower. This tower is the standout on the Auckland skyline. At 328 metres high, you’ll get no better view of the city. This tower is also notable because it's home to some fantastic adrenaline-pumping activities. Perhaps see the city from a unique point of view – like by jumping off the side of the Sky Tower on the SkyJump, or walking around the outside of the building at 196 metres high on the SkyWalk. These activities are by the infamous AJ Hackett, whose adrenaline-fueled activities are a regular feature across the entire country, from up here in Auckland city to the mountains of Queenstown.

AJ Hackett makes another feature in this city, at the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge. Drive to the harbour and climb up to the dizzying heights to take part in this fun activity. The bungy jump here is the only place in New Zealand that features an ocean touch dip – meaning that at the base of your jump you can choose to dip your head into the water.

When the adrenaline activities are over, there’s still so much of Auckland to explore, like the beaches that surround the city. With Orewa to the north, a beautifully bliss coastal community with excellent beaches that delight holidaymakers and surfers year-round, you could easily spend a few days in pure relaxation here. There’s also Piha. Piha boasts the rugged coastline that New Zealand is so famous for, with black sanded beaches and wild waters. It’s the home of New Zealand surfing and is an iconic visit.

Hit the Road with Ace

New Zealand is renowned for its beautiful road trips, so wherever you decide to head in your rental car, it’s going to be spectacular.

With the Northland just a three-hour drive away, it makes sense to visit this tropical paradise while you’re holidaying in Auckland city. Drive up to Paihia and use this as your base for a few days while you enjoy the sunshine, warm weather, and tropical seas. Maybe visit the Poor Knights Island, which is one of the top ten dive sites in the world, to see an underwater wonderland that’ll rival anything you see onshore.

Auckland City is a fantastic place to visit and stay. With so many unique activities here, you’ll have endless fun while exploring a beautiful corner of the world. Stay a while in the city itself, or use Auckland as your base for the rest of New Zealand. You can do it all, with Ace Auckland City.
