We rented a car firstly in Greymouth which we left at Christchurch Airport and then two days later rented a car from Wellington which we left at Auckland Airport - the staff both on on-line booking were great and also when picking or dropping off the cars - a wonderful holiday highlighted by helpful staff of Ace and the reliable vehicles supplied to us.
