The Moko
Moko is the traditional art of Maori Tattoo. It was a highly sacred ritual which had severe consequences for anyone who cried out. Unlike modern tattoo, the skin was actually gouged out with a chisel then filled with a black die. With the arrival of white man Maori drew their moko design as their signature.
