There are over 50 wineries in the Marlborough region. There are 7 million vines producing 40,000 tons of grapes and 23.3 million litres of wine each year. This region accounts for around 52% of the countries wine production. Marlborough has a dry sunny climate with a low autumn rainfall, ideal conditions for growing it's signature Sauvignon Blanc's and Chardonnay's. The region also has a reputation for fine Pinos gris, Rieslings, Gewurztraminer and of late, Pinot noir.

Winemaking in New Zealand

Wine making in New Zealand started as early as 1819 however it wasn't until the 1970's that Marlborough's full potential was identified with the first vineyard opening in 1973. Sitting on roughly the same latitude as many of Europe's premier wine growing regions, from Spain in the north of the North Island ,to the Rhine in the south of the South Island. New Zealand produces some of the worlds most regarded wines. The wine tasting in Marlborough is superb and it's easy to loose track of what you drink. New Zealand has a zero tolerance policy with drink driving. Your vehicle will not be insured if you are over the limit. There are frequent random breath test check points, if you are caught you will be prosecuted, please don't drink and drive...

Favourite Spot in NZ - Phillip (Ace Picton)

My favourite place in NZ is Lake Rotoiti (Nelson Lakes). " I like Lake Rotoiti for its contrasting scenery all year around. The summer because of the blueness of the water, and the mountains surrounding the lake. Winter because of all the snowcaps on the mountains, it looks beautiful. There are also so many activities to do around the lake, plenty of hiking areas, and the village is very quaint"
