Tongariro Nationalpark

There are a number of short walks located in the Tongariro National Park. The most famous, the Tongariro crossing, is regarded as the best day walk in New Zealand. The Tongariro crossing takes about 7 hours. The best place to start is at Mangatepopo then finish at Ketetahi, this way you'll be walking down the mountains instead of up them. If you are planning on doing the crossing you are best advised to leave your car at a hotel or hostel in Turangi or National Park...
